The Sacramento State Police Department determined on Friday that the Sept. 13 assault of a female student on campus was sexual battery.

No one has been arrested for the assault, although officers have posted a composite sketch of the suspect around campus.

The victim was studying outdoors on the northeast side of Capistrano Hall when she was approached by the Latino male, described as being 5-foot-6 to 5-foot-7-inches tall, and having tattoos on the lower part of both his legs.

“The victim was touched, through clothing, on an intimate part of her body,” said Sac State Police Det. Scott Christian via e-mail. Officers are considering the crime a sexual battery.

The victim was not injured, but was “stressed and upset,” Christian said. “She made an excellent decision post-incident; she went to a place of safety and immediately reported the incident to the police department.”

The woman’s name is being withheld to protect her privacy.

Investigators said they believe the perpetrator is not a student, Christian said.

Police have received several leads since posting the press release around campus this week, although no witnesses have come forward, Christian said.

Anyone with knowledge is urged to call investigators at 916-278-6851 or e-mail the department at [email protected].
