The Hornets advanced to Sunday’s final against Northern Arizona University.

Sac State started their morning with doubles as the teams of Maria Meliuk and Clarisse Baca and Aileen Tsan and Zalina Nazarova each defeated their opponents 8-2, which gave the Hornets an early 2-0 lead in the semifinal.

Singles was a bit of the same or Hornets as they needed just two more wins to move into Sunday’s championship.

The Hornet women set the tone for the tournament by winning all three of there singles matches. Rebeca Delgado for Sac State defeated Laura Villegas 6-0, 6-1. Baca then increased the lead by defeating Andrea De La Torre 6-0, 6-1. The Hornets finished with Tsan defeating Jennifer Coll 6-1, 6-0.

Only 4 of the 5 scores counts as by rule the match will end when a team reaches four wins.

Sac State will face Northern Arizona in Sunday’s championship as the Lumberjacks defeated the University of Montana 4-2.

Delgado said she was happy to play against the Bobcats this time around.

“I was excited because the last time our team played against Montana State I wasn’t able to go on the trip. I had to take a test,” Delgado said. “So I was really excited. I knew that I was going to be focused and ready to play them.”

Hornet Tatsiana Kapshai said playing the same team early in the season, helped the to win.

“At the beginning of the beginning of the season I was struggling a little,” Kapshai said. “But now I know exactly what I needed to do in each match and with each point.”

Head coach Dimi Hrynashka said he felt the team did a fantastic job of winning their matches.

“I the team did great today,” Hrynaskka said. “The entire team concentrated on what they need to do. The coaching staff talked with the players about concentration. We already beat Montana State earlier in the season. I asked them to play their best tennis and now they have a lot to show for it.”
