Women’s tennis falls in close match at No. 19 Washington

The Sacramento State women’s tennis team dropped a tight match to No. 19 University of Washington today, 4-3 in Seattle, Wash.

Despite the close loss, the Hornets did not come away from the match completely empty-handed.

Senior Katrina Zheltova, ranked No. 46 in the country in singles, defeated Washington’s Denise Dry, who came into the match as the No. 4 player in the country, 6-1 and 6-3.

Sac State led by a 3-2 score before the Huskies won two matches in a row to steal the victory.

Sophomore Tatsiana Kapshai defeated Washington’s Lina Xu 7-5 and 6-3. Senior Aileen Tsan defeated Aleksandra Malovic, 6-2, 1-6, 6-2 to complete the third of the Hornets’ match wins on the day.

The Hornets fell to 4-3 on the season with the loss, while Washington improved to 6-1.

The team returns to action on Sunday, as it travels to play Washington State University at 10 a.m.
