The Sacramento State women’s basketball team had its seven-game winning streak snapped tonight by Montana State University at the Hornets Nest, 84-73.

Montana State closed the game on a 17-2 run to secure the win in a game where the Bobcats shot 53.1 percent from the floor.

Sac State led 71-67 at the 7:38 mark of the second half. However, a shooting drought spelled the end of the school’s Division I-best winning-streak.

The Hornets were led by senior forward Charday Hunt, who scored a game-high 26 points. Senior forward Erika Edwards scored 12 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. Junior forward Emily Christensen chipped in with 14 points and six rebounds.

Montana State guard Erica Perry led the Bobcats with 18 points and seven assists. Forward Sarah Strand scored 17 on 7-11 shooting and grabbed eight rebounds.

With the win, the Bobcats pull to within percentage points of the Hornets for fourth place in the conference. The team is now 7-6 in conference and 14-12 overall.

Sac State falls to 6-5 in conference and 11-13 overall. Barring a complete collapse, the women’s team should make the Big Sky Tournament, which begins March 11.

The Hornets return to action on Saturday as they host the University of Montana Grizzles (8-4 in conference, 13-11 overall) at 1:05 p.m. at the Hornets Nest.
