The ninth-ranked team in the country, Stanford, blanked the Sacramento State men’s tennis team, 7-0, at the Taube Family Tennis Stadium on Saturday.

The Hornets’ Kiryl Harbatsiuk, the 2009 Big Sky MVP, came the closest to winning a match in the singles category, dropping the third set to Cardinal Alex Clayton in a tiebreaker, 6-2, 3-6, 1-0 (10-2).

Sac State’s Jason Smith was also able to win a set, but dropped the third set to lose the match to Stanford’s Richard Wire.

The start of the match was delayed two hours due to rain.

The loss drops the Hornets to 0-2 on the young season after Friday’s surprising loss to Northern Arizona University.

The men’s tennis team returns to the court on Saturday, when it hosts Weber State University and Idaho State University at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. at the Rio Del Oro Racquet Club. The Hornets also host UC Davis on Jan. 31 at 1 p.m., which counts in the Causeway Cup standings.
