Men’s basketball snaps long losing streak with 72-55 victory

The Sacramento State men’s basketball team snapped its 27-game Big Sky Conference road losing streak with a 72-55 win against Idaho State University on Saturday night at Reed Gym in Pocatello, Idaho.

The Hornets notched their second win of the season against the Bengals.

Junior guard Sultan Toles-Bey had one of his best games of the season with 20 points on 5-8 shooting, including three 3-pointers. Junior forward Duro Bjegovic had a big game for the Hornets, as he scored 17 points and pulled down a season-high 12 rebounds. Senior guard Jonathan Malloy had his best game of the season with 16 points.

The Hornets shot 52.4 percent from the floor and held the Bengals to 38.6 percent.

Broderick Gilchrest scored 14 points for Idaho State. Chron Tatum scored 12 points and grabbed nine rebounds.

The loss drops the Bengals to 3-6 in conference play and 6-15 overall.

The win improves the Hornets to 8-15 overall and 2-8 in Big Sky play. The win also snaps a five-game Big Sky losing streak.

Sac State returns home to host Portland State University on Friday at 7:05 p.m. at the Hornets Nest.
