Women’s basketball falls to Portland Pilots

The Sacramento State women’s basketball team fell to the Portland University Pilots on Sunday 98-63 at the Chiles Center in Portland, Ore.

The Pilots had five players score in double figures, led by senior guard Laiken Dollente 19 points on 7-15 shooting. She also added six assists and four steals.

Sophomore guard ReZina Teclemariam contributed 18 points on 6-8 shooting and five steals. Sophomore forward Alexis Gannis pulled a game-high 12 rebounds.

The Pilots shot 47 percent from the floor and out-rebounded the Hornets 52-39.

Portland led by 13 at the half, 43-30, and Sac State could not recover from the deficit.

Sac State was led by senior forward Charday Hunt, who scored 17 points and snagged seven rebounds. Senior forward Erika Edwards added 10 points and five rebounds. Junior forward Emily Christensen chipped in eight points of her own.

Sac State shot 32 percent from the field and committed 23 turnovers.

The non-conference loss drops the Hornets to 0-3 overall on the young season. The team travels to Seattle University on Wednesday for a 6:05 p.m. meeting with the Redhawks.

The team doesn’t return to the Hornets’ Nest until Dec. 18 when they host San Jose State University at 7:05 p.m.
