There is no way anybody could possibly say no to Mexican food, at least in my opinion. The hearty dishes always seem to take the word yummy right out of my mouth. The Jalisco Mexican restaurant named “Tres Agaves” located in Roseville takes a somewhat different approach on the traditional Mexican American meal.

Jalisco, a state in Mexico, is where 90 percent of tequila is made, so the food dishes on the menu were specifically created to go well with tequila. However unlike “El Torito” or “Chevy’s”, there are no burritos and no hard tacos.

The price range is anywhere from about $10 to $30 and all the dishes are family size so you can enjoy your food with more than one person. Every dish includes tomato rice, pinto beans, fresh corn tortillas and a cabbage and radish salad filled with fresh mangos and cilantro, perfect to put in the soft, corn tacos.

The margarita I ordered was called the “Tres Agaves Margarita” and was made with fresh lime juice, agave nectar and “tequila blanco,” which is aged the least of all the tequilas at the bar. It went deliciously with the “Pollo Mole” that I ordered.

The “Pollo Mole” was a whole chicken slowly cooked and completed with hot mole sauce that was poured over the chicken. The mole is a thick sauce that tasted like black beans mixed with tomatoes to create a perfect bite when eaten with the tender chicken.

I decided to put this delicious mixture to the test by putting it in the corn tortilla and adding the beans, salad, rice and salad. It passed with flying colors and made each bite a savory treat.

The restaurant has been open for four weeks now and it truly is a wonderful place to eat. Mariachi music was playing in the background while colorful food was being placed on the table and I couldn’t help but imagine myself being on the streets of Jalisco Mexico.
