Ronaldo Luiz Nazario, the talented soccer player from Brazil, used to make me say “wow” for his stylish moves out on the field but now with his latest scandal, he makes me say “wow” for a completely different reason. Just recently, he was caught in a controversy that includes transvestites, a hotel room and the cops.

Just this month in Rio de Janero, Brazil, thinking that they were women, Nazario was said to have invited three male transvestite prostitutes to a motel room; after he found out the women were really men, he told authorities that he tried to tell the men to leave his room and offered to give them a payment of $600 each.

Authorities questioned Nazario after one of the transvestites told them that the soccer player neglected to pay him the agreed amount and once police intervened, his rendezvous was made public.

Not only was Nazario’s excursion a jaw-dropping shock of disbelief but many fans and authorities of the soccer world say that the soccer star’s actions were immoral, even if there were no charges made against him because prostitution is legal in Brazil.

An article by the International Herald Tribune by Alexei Barrionuevo and Joshua Schneyer said, “The fact that Ronaldo’s misadventure has been front-page news here for several days – and that some cartoonists and blogs have made him the butt of jokes, even as other commentators have said his behavior is unbecoming of a role model – is evidence that soccer stars are held to a different standard.”

As a soccer star dealing with a controversy like this and hard core fans who criticize him, Nazario has surely made himself the butt of jokes.

But the real question I would like to know is: Was he honestly unaware of the fact that the three women he took back to his room that night were really men?

It was said that Nazario picked up one of the cross dressers at around 4 a.m. and ended the misunderstanding at around 8 a.m, so for four hours he was clueless that the women he brought back to his room were really men, which is hard to believe.

Not only did Nazario’s mix-up threaten a morality standard with soccer fans, but now his sexuality is being questioned by many. He has been known to date some of the world’s most beautiful women and now he will be known for bringing home some of Brazil’s most beautiful men.
