Men’s basketball loses final road game of season 83-77
March 5, 2008
The Sacramento State Hornets lost another close game on the road Saturday, this time against the UC Davis Aggies 83-77 with help from Aggies’ guard Mark Payne, who recorded the third triple-double in school history (19 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists).
UC Davis’ Dominic Calegari had a double-double and led the team in scoring with 22 points and 10 rebounds.
Freshman guard Vinnie McGhee scored a game-high 24 points and added seven assists for the Hornets.
McGhee was able to score a three-pointer with 3:07 left in regulation to bring the game within 1 point (68-67), but the Aggies were able to score on six of their final seven possessions to win the game.
The Hornets were able to come within 4 points twice in the final 23 seconds, but that would be as close as they would get for the rest of the game.
Three Hornets players helped McGhee in scoring: senior guard Clark Woods (15), senior forward Justin Williams (14) and junior guard Loren Leath (10).
The Hornets’ final game of the season will be at 7:05 p.m. Monday at home against Weber State.
