The Sacramento State Hornets lost another game at home, falling to the Idaho State Bengals 90-73.

The second consecutive loss by the Hornets makes their record 4-15, 2-15 in the Big Sky Conference, and the Bengals record 13-6, 5-2.

After being down by five at the half, the Hornets rallied early in the second half by shooting three three-pointers, but Bengals center Natalie Doma (34) and guard Andrea Lightfoot (27) finished the game with a combined 61 points.

“We know (Doma) was going to score a lot,” said center Atty Boyer, who had 15 points and 4 rebounds for the game, “but our plan was to shut everyone else out, and they ended up scoring as well so that didn’t help us.”

“She’s one of the best players in our conference.”

“When we get panicked, and when we’re down, and since we hit those three threes,” said Forward/guard Emily Christensen, who had also recorded her first double-double of the season, “it probably made us think that we can shoot, but we should have ran the plays.”

The Hornets did tie the game early in the first half, but could not capitalize on the Bengals’ poor defense in the opening minutes of the game.

“We couldn’t get over the hump,” Christensen said. Christensen finished the game with 12 points and 11 rebounds. “It’s nice to help the team a little more,” she said.

The Hornets bench also outscored the Bengals bench by a ratio of 2:1.

The next game is at 7:05 p.m. when the Hornets are hosting Northern Colorado Thursday, Jan. 31 at the Hornets Nest.
