After the success of their debut album “Page Six,” Story of the Year is hit it big again with their sophomore album “In the Wake of Determination.”

Produced by Steve Evetts, “In the Wake of Determination” aims to take things a step further from the first album by giving fans a bigger feel of what they’ll see at a show or concert. “Live, we always played heavier than our record actually sounded, so we wanted to try and capture our live sound on this record,” said Dan Marsala, the group’s lead vocalist.

And they do just that. Upon putting the record into the player, the hard sounds of drums and a deep felt voice starts to belt out immediately, characteristics that belong to the band’s first single “We Don’t Care Anymore.”

The song, which is about forgetting what other people think, is the first of many on the album that lets the listener know this is a band that thrives on performing live. After listening to the first song, it’s hard to not picture the band doing the same thing and rocking out on a stage.

While they have succeeded in capturing a live feel, the album’s main strength is the power in the lyrics, which were all written by the band. Songs such as “Meathead,” “Stereo” and “Five Against the World” all depict the successes and accomplishments the band has made thus far.

Constant concert goers will relate to “Meathead,” a song about obnoxious, hurtful guys in the moshpit. Track 10, entitled “Pay Your Enemy,” was best put by the band’s bassist Adam Russell when he said, “The lyrics are definitely angrier than anything we’ve ever done, but they’re really honest.”

With that, it’s definitely a song to listen to when in complete and bitter anger.

Band members recommend that fans learn the lyrics to the album’s last track, “‘Is this my fate?’ he asked them” because they will “probably play it at every show until [they] break up in 2030,” joked Ryan Phillips, one of the band’s two guitarists. The song, which talks about discrimination, is a band favorite.

Just when the band seems to be all about raging tunes, the album continues to play after the last song, revealing a hidden track that by far proves they have more to offer.

Slow, calm and mellow, the track shows a different side of the band. The vocal sound is smooth and when paired with the soothing music, the track altogether is quite impressing.

Alongside Marsala, Russell and Phillips, Story Of The Year is also comprised of Phillip Sneed on guitar and Josh Willis on drums.

Story Of The Year will be playing at Arco Arena on March 29 along with Deftones, Thrice, Atreyu, and more. For more information click here or for tickets clickhere.visit for more ticket information.
