The State Hornet won 19 awards at the Associated Collegiate Press and California College Media Association March 3-5 conference, held in Los Angeles.

The campus’ student-run newspaper took third place for general excellence among weekly newspapers in California and, on the national level, took honorable mention in the Associated Collegiate Press Newspaper of the Year competition.

“It’s great to be considered as one of the top weekly newspapers in California and the nation,” Editor in Chief Nicholas Lozito said.

“It’s a credit to the work of our entire staff. What we have to do now is figure out exactly what separates us from being the best and work to bridge that gap.”

The State Hornet won first place awards for Best News-Page Design and Best Sports-Page Design from the California College Media Association for Division B ?” weekly newspapers.

The State Hornet also placed second in Best Overall Design, and placed third in General Excellence and General Web Site Excellence.

Northern and Southern California colleges entered the competition. Staff from San Jose Mercury News, Orange County Register and The Sacramento Bee judged the competition.
