Bush for president

Robert Alvis

Depending on whom you listen to, this election comes down to a lying, dumb President George Bush and his flop happy, say anything to get elected president opponent, Sen. John Kerry.-

Instead of going off propaganda and hype, I went with the issues.-

I believe that President Bush is a better man for the job than Kerry. –

Health care for everyone is a nice thought, but parents can get health care for their children, even if it requires getting another job. I know it may cut into their nightlife, but if they weren’t ready to uphold the responsibilities of parenthood, they should have done better in their responsibilities in early adulthood.-

Bush provides opportunity for those who will work for it. Kerry just provides, to everyone, no matter if they deserve it or not.-

Maybe after providing everyone with health care, they can make sure everyone gets a flu vaccination, then they can make sure we wear coats when it’s chilly outside, then maybe they can adopt a program to help the biggest killer in America, obesity, by going to the grocery store for us as well.

Bush does not support raising the minimum wage because it is just that, a minimum. It’s for high school students who work drive-thrus. There is not a student at Sac State who couldn’t get a job that pays more than minimum wage, today. Raising the minimum wage up a quarter does nothing for most Americans.

-Bush is not against stem cell research — there are no laws prohibiting it, he just doesn’t want the government funding it.

I know Kerry has stated that he will tax the rich to get that money, and by rich he means the middle class. Rich people aren’t going to just take a hit in their pocket books and call it a day. No, they will lay off employees and cut back until their pockets have risen to their pre-tax level.

Taxing those who make over $200,000 will put many small businesses in jeopardy of going out of business or requiring company owners to lay-off employees to stay in business.-

Kerry has stated that he will lower taxes of 98 percent of citizens and 99 percent of businesses while providing more money to education, health care, researching new energy sources, stem-cell research and the environment all while reducing the deficit by half. As for the war, I offer this.-

If you think, left unchecked, Saddam Hussein would not have caused any harm to the U.S. at anytime in the future, then you have a legit beef with Bush. If you believe he would at some point have had something to do with an attack on America, ask yourself when would it have been the right time to take him out of power?-

It would not be hard to find people around campus who think we are losing military personnel at a pace far exceeding the truth, some even dare to compare Iraq to Vietnam.

I had a man tell me we are losing about five a day, but that would be overstating the real amount by about 250 percent.-

At the current pace, we could wage this war in Iraq for over 78 years before reaching the levels of Vietnam.-

Bush and Kerry don’t differ too much on the issue of Iraq as far as what to do now.

-They both believe the answer is to train Iraqis to defend for themselves and allow the U.S. military to come back to their families.

Kerry believes he can bring together a stronger coalition, which would consist of the addition of Spain and France, both countries that have stated they have no desire to join the U.S. no matter who is president.

Bush has shown he is on the side of many issues for the betterment of America and that is why he should be president.-
