‘7th Standard’ band rocks CSUS

Native Sacramento alternative-rock band 7th Standard will be performing at Sac State?s Serna Plaza, adjacent to the University Union, Wednesday at noon. Cash-strapped live concert lovers can rejoice, as there is no charge for admission.

The band was formed by guitarist/vocalist Jason Mahon, bassist Mike Hernandez and drummer Andy Dibben in 1996. The trio became a quartet when guitarist Dan Camacho joined the group in Sept. 2001.

The band has been seen playing at local venues with the likes of Papa Roach and Something of Substance, another native northern California group.

7th Standard has released three independent albums since its conception. Its first album, a self-titled EP with 6 tracks, debuted in May of 1999. “In Orbit Around Us,” the group?s first full-length album, was released hot on the heels of their debut EP in Nov. of 1999. Less than a year later, in Oct. 2000, Standard?s third album, another EP, titled “Fire From the Sky,” appeared on music store shelves. A fourth album will be released sometime this year.

Those interested in sampling 7th Standard?s music can download, for free, MP3 or streaming versions of most of the group?s work at www.7thstandard.com. Additionally, all three of the band?s CDs can be purchased through its website.
