Circle K, a college level branch of the international Kiwani community service organization, is looking for new members to fill out its Sacramento State chapter.

The local group, which is already in operation, needs 20 members by March to regain its status as an official branch of Circle K international, according to Sheree Aguilar, a nursing major at Sac State who is one of the group’s main organizers.

“The group is more than half-way there,” Aguilar said.

“Just because we are not a charter does not mean that we can not go out and do good,” Aguilar said.

The local chapter is currently involved in activities that include reading programs for children, the Kiwani Family House, which provides low cost housing for family members of hospital patients, feeding the homeless, and fund raising at the concession stands at Arco Arena.

The organization is run closely with the Kiwani Club, said Richard Kornweibel, a social science professor at Sac State and the program?s faculty advisor.

Anyone who is a college student is eligible to join, Aguilar said. The membership fee is $27 annually.

The program has a variety of activities planned, including its meetings, which will be held in the University Union at an as yet undetermined location on Wednesdays at 6 p.m..

“We encourage anyone to come to our meetings,” Aquilar said.
