Desiree McFarland is in her last semester at Sacramento State University. Holding a bachelor’s in communication studies from CSU Sacramento, Spring 2023, she joined the Hornet after declaring a minor in journalism in Fall 2023. McFarland has also worked for an outside journalism non-profit organization that helps the black community thrive in the field of media. McFarland’s uses her experience as a public speaker, multi-media reporter and podcast DJ on “916 to Life,” to show her passion and enthusiasm for journalism as an art form.

The ‘BECOMING’ mural is a central focal point of the murals revealed near the University Union and was created by Heather Hogan, a professor at Sacramento City College Wednesday, April 10, 2024. The murals are the second installment of the university’s “A Place of Belonging Murals” multiyear mural project.
