Sac State QB Fleming invited to NFL Combine in Detroit
February 8, 2012
After participating at the NFL Regional Combine in Los Angeles, former Sacramento State quarterback Jeff Fleming was invited to the NFL Super Regional Combine in Detroit.
There are eight NFL regional combines that take place, starting with the Los Angeles Combine Fleming attended on Jan. 28.
All 32 NFL teams had a representative present and Fleming impressed the scouts enough to be invited to the Detroit Super Regional March 30 and 31.
“I’m extremely excited,” Fleming said. “I went down and did the Regional Combine down in (Los Angeles) and had done really well and the fact that I got the call to go to the Super Regional, I’m ecstatic. It’s unreal.”
Fleming said he got the call around 3 p.m. Wednesday, when he was at The Well.
“I was playing basketball with a few of my friends and we sat down and I got a phone call and they watched me just get super excited,” Fleming said. “It brought tears to my eyes to find out I was going because I didn’t really think I would make it. I know I did well, I just didn’t know I did well enough and when I got the news, I just lost it.”
Fleming will have less than two months to prepare for Detroit, and he said he will continue to get in the weight room, run, throw and get prepared any way he can.
The Super Regional Combine gives players who were not looked at for the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis on Feb. 22-28 a shot to still make it to the NFL.
Fleming said to go to Detroit and represent Sac State is a great feeling and he hopes he can go all the way.
“The fact that I get to go out there and support my fellow Hornets with the Hornets T-shirt on and my Hornets Sac State shorts on is just going to feel really, really great for myself,” Fleming said.
