The Sacramento State men’s tennis team opened its season today in Tucson with a loss to No. 54 Arizona by a 4-3 score.

Junior Aliaksandr Malko led the team in the No. 1 spot, with senior Javier Millan at the No. 2. The Hornets used four freshmen to fill out the remaining four positions.

The Hornets evenly split six matches with the Wildcats in the singles competition. Millan won his match with set scores of 6-3 and 6-2. Freshman Marek Marksoo achieved victory with scores of 3-6, 6-0 and 6-3 in three sets. Freshman Jonathan Hultkrantz rallied back to pick up a win after three sets, losing the second set 6-7 after a 5-7 tiebreaker.

The doubles competition was not as friendly to the Hornets. Sac State’s Millan and Kolar, Marksoo and Brandys and Malko and Hultkrantz were all defeated, giving the Wildcats a 3-0 sweep.

Sac State looks to bounce back against the University of San Francisco Saturday at 11 a.m. at a neutral site in Tucson.
