A new exhibit at Sacramento State will feature portraits of multiracial families called “Of Many Colors: Portraits of Multiracial Families.”

The exhibit runs Oct. 2-30 in the Multi-Cultural Center in Room 1010 of the library. The increasing diversity of the American family is the focus of the exhibit.

The Multi-Cultural Center and an organization called Family Diversity Projects brought this unique project to Sacramento State. The exhibit has been touring the United States since 1993.

“The Multi-Cultural Center hopes the exhibit will portray a visual way of the growing diversity in American society. We have to recognize the aspect of a growing diversity,” said Leonard Valdez, the director of the Multi-Cultural Center.

The award-winning show received the Multicultural Recognition Award from the Regional Laboratory for Educational Improvement.

Photographs from the exhibit have been displayed in magazines, such as Boston Globe Sunday Magazine and Teaching Tolerance Magazine.

The show will feature photographs from Gigi Kaeser. Text by Peggy Gillespie will tell the stories of 20 multiracial families formed through relationships or adoption.

Exhibit hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. For more information, contact the Multi-Cultural Center at (916) 278-6101.
