Positive energy expressed through music

Stevie Wonder, Adele and India Arie are just a few of her influences. With an eclectic mix of genres to pull from and a refreshing sound, Ayla “Ayla X Rainbow Warrior” Dozier is making waves with her music and positive energy.
Recently signed to a new Sacramento-based record label called Cosmic Vibe, Dozier is determined to use her voice as a tool to uplift people.
“I want to, essentially help people feel better about themselves. Little girls are in their bedrooms listening to the radio, and I want them to feel empowered,” said Dozier.
She said the Cosmic Vibe label is open to any genre with one requirement: the music has to be positive, uplifting and have a message of love.
Dozier does not like to define her style of music and said it is difficult to put into words however, Tammé Shinshuri has the perfect title for her music: Cosmic Vibe.
Shinshuri, who has a doctorate in education, said Cosmic Vibe is not only a label she founded but a genre that encompasses all the genres.
“Cosmic vibe is about creating a positive, healing and inspirational type of music,” said Shinshuri. “We are looking to reach all age groups. We are looking to inspire youths and parents [alike].”
The pseudonym Ayla X Rainbow Warrior is more than a stage name for Dozier, it is packed with meaning.
“Rainbows are bridges,” explained Dozier. “I found a bridge between cultures, ages and a lot of different things and I try to embody that in my music.”
As a biracial woman, Dozier also hopes to bridge communication among people of different ethnicities.
“Warrior is not in terms of physical fighting or war,” she said. “I believe a spiritual warrior is somebody who does not just walk through life aimlessly or on autopilot but examines the person within them and fights their own demons.”
Rainbow warrior is also term used in Native American culture.
According to ilhawaii.net, rainbow warriors are the key to mankind’s survival in ancient folklore.
The name fits Dozier perfectly according to fellow artist and friend Luke Tailor.
“She’s like a Jimmy Hendricks. She is a little ahead of her time,” he said.
The name Rainbow Warrior also makes a lot of sense in how she pursues education.
Dozier is currently attending the California Institute of Integral Studies in San Francisco.
“[CIIS] has values I really identify with … I’m [in] the music, voice and sound healing certificate program,” said Dozier. “So essentially, I’m learning about how to use music as a tool to heal people.”
Dozier’s music is very personal in essence and sometimes comes from the same raw emotions as her poetry. No matter the source, she uses words to evoke powerful feelings in those who listen.
“I invited her to come into the Cosmic Vibe family when I [first] heard her perform,” said Shinshuri. “I was like, [Dozier] would be perfect for this cosmic vibe genre.”
Dozier’s EP titled “Gentle Awakening” is now in the works and though no release date has been confirmed, it is bound to be soulfully influential.
