In their final exhibition game before Saturday’s season opener at Stanford, the Sacramento State men’s basketball team defeated EA Sports 96-88 at the Hornet’s Nest.

The Hornets used a full-court press to force EA Sports into 31 turnovers.

“Our two guards up front are putting a lot of pressure on the ball,” senior Joel Jones said. “And our big guys are doing a good job of rotating back.”

The Hornets were led by senior Brandon Guyton, who shot a perfect 6-of-6 from behind the 3-point line, finishing with 22 points. Guyton also had five of Sac State’s 18 steals.

EA Sports, led by University of San Francisco graduate Shamell Stallworth’s 33 points on 10-of-15 shooting, forced the Hornets into 24 turnovers.

Jones shot 8-of-18 from the floor in a 21 point effort. He also sunk three 3-pointers and dished out four assists.

Sac State shot 46.4 percent from the floor and never trailed in the game, going up 9-2 early on and converting that into a 47-36 lead at halftime.

Shooting guard Joseth Dawson and point guard DaShawn Freeman also scored in double figures for Sac State, with 15 and 11 respectively.

The Hornets dropped their first Exhibition game of the season to Olympic Club, 79-68.

“We just picked it up all-around,” Guyton said. “Our intensity is a lot better. Last game we came out real flat and it transferred over to the offensive end. We just came in a little bit more focused.”
