Samaha Samy is a political opinion writer for The State Hornet. Before joining The State Hornet in fall 2020, he worked as a freelance journalist with Al-Masry Al-Youm, one of the top five newspapers in Egypt, North Africa and the Middle East. During his work for Al-Masry Al-Youm, he interviewed many prominent subjects such as Illinois Senator Dick Durbin, Oscar-winning actor Rami Malek and Egyptian and Arab diplomats in California such as former Science Adviser of the Egyptian President and CalTech professor, Essam Heggy.

A 52-year-old man shot and killed by Sacramento police was revealed to have made a 911 call during a mental health crisis by his family’s spokesperson at a News conference at the California State Capitol building Thursday.

President Donald Trump visited Sacramento Monday for a briefing with state and federal fire and emergency officials on the wildfires.
The new Center for First-Generation Student Initiatives hosted a virtual launch on Tuesday Sept. 8, 2020 to welcome students who identify as first-generation. The center will provide support and services to these students including workshops on money management, time management, mental health and doing taxes.
