Sacramento State students will receive a third grant from the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF) in the first week of October, according to a SacSend email from President Robert Nelsen.

The university was granted $52 million from Congress under the American Rescue Plan Act to support students affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. The amount that students receive is dependent on their financial aid and the number of units they are enrolled in.

Students who are eligible for the Pell Grant and enrolled in seven or more units will receive $900, and Pell eligible students enrolled in six or less units will receive $675. Non-Pell eligible students enrolled in seven or more units will receive $800, and non-Pell eligible students enrolled in six or less units will receive $575.

Students who did not file a FAFSA or have an expected family contribution of $10,001 or higher will receive $700 if they are enrolled in seven or more units and $500 if they are enrolled in six or more units.

According to Nelsen’s SacSend, DACA students, international students and students in fully online programs through the College of Continuing Education are all eligible to receive these HEERF grants.

Students will automatically receive their grant through a mailed check or eRefund, which can be found in their Student Center and deposits the money into a student’s bank account, according to Nelsen’s email. To set up eRefund, go to My Sac State, go to the Student Center, click “Account Inquiry,” then click the button, “Sign up for eRefund (direct deposit).” If students would prefer to receive a check, Sac State encourages making sure their directory information is updated in their Student Center, as whichever address is listed will be where the check is sent.

Students in crisis can also apply for additional funding through the university.
