Rain a factor in bike accident near AIRC
April 1, 2014
A bicyclist was injured riding by the west side of the AIRC when he lost control of his bike at 11:50 a.m.
The biker suffered abrasions across his body and face.
Three firefighters and two officers responded to the cyclist’s accident.
Sacramento State Chief of Police Mark Iwasa said the biker was transported off campus in an ambulance and sent to a hospital.
The wet pavement caused the bike’s tires to skid.
Whether or not the crash will affect safety policies is not yet known but Iwasa believes speeding may have increased the likelihood of the accident. The rain offered little friction for his tires to brake with efficiency.
“Excessive speeding of bicycles has been a problem here,” Iwasa said. “It is currently being addressed.”
