An unidentified man was detained by campus police today in front of Riverside Hall for alleged mental instability.

“A student called in saying that there was a guy acting kind of weird on the Library quad,” said Officer Augustin Yaya.

Yaya said officers responded to the call and located the man near the American River where they detained him after evaluating the man’s psychological state.

“We determined that he was mentally unstable,” said Yaya.

The man was allegedly carrying a knife.

Police said the man will be transported to an area hospital for psychological observation.
