Estimated $17,600 lost per day due to River Front closing
February 18, 2009
University Enterprises, Inc. has estimated that the university will lose $17,600 in revenue for each day the River Front Center is closed.
The university has notified all seven food vendors within the center. Some of the vendors, such as Togos, are UEI-owned franchises. Others, like Miyagi, are private businesses.
Celexsy Adame, director of marketing services for UEI, confirmed that the issue is not food-related but due to leaking in a crawlspace.
An industrial hygienist was checking the crawlspace today to see how to proceed with repairs.
Daryn Ockey, assistant director of facilities resources, said in a press release that facilities knows the center is a central point on campus.
“We want to get the center back in operation as soon as we can,” Ockey said.
The River Front Center closed Thursday due to leaks found in a crawlspace in the flooring. Although university officials confirmed the leaks caused by the recent flooding will not affect health or sanitation, the center will be shut down until the damaged is repaired.
The center, which houses eating facilities such as Togo’s, Kung Fu Fat’s and Hula Dog, is located near the northeast end of campus between Shasta and Mendocino halls.
Public Affairs could not confirm when the center will be opened again. The damages are unknown at this point. The center’s water has been shut off and the bathrooms are also closed off for repair work.
Facilities Services declined to comment and said all information regarding updates will come through Public Affairs.
