Rowing records finishes of second and sixth at Head of the American

The Sacramento State rowing team took home a second and sixth place finish in the Head of the American meet on Saturday at Lake Natoma.

In the women’s Collegiate Novice Eight race the Sac State A boat finished second with a time of 19:49 behind only USC’s 19:26. Sac State A’s time bested third place Cal’s A boat by 28 seconds. Sac State’s B boat finished fourth in the 13-boat field with a time of 20:56.

The other race that included boats from Sac State was the women’s Collegiate Eight. There, the three Sac State boats were able to place sixth (Sac State A, 18:05), 11th (Sac State B, 18:15) and 16th (Sac State C, 19:10). Stanford’s A boat won the race with a time of 17:08.

The A boat consisted of Ashley Platner at coxswain, Aimee Chenard at stroke, Meghyn Cox at seven, Janine LaCrosse at six, Krista Hill at five, Ashley Loucks at four, Ruthie Van Esso at three, Krista Carlson at two and Constance Deslauriers at bow.

In boat B was Amy Branstetter at coxswain, Anne Morrison at stroke, Justine Fernandez at seven, Alicia Tarkenton at six, Sherry Payne at five, Dani Thole at four, Kellie Cook at three, Holly Hopkins at two, and Aleisha DeCindis at bow.

Rounding out the participants for the Hornets in boat C was Kelley Major at coxswain, Nicole Cavenagh at stroke, Sandra Miller at seven, Lenore Meehan at six, Catherine Woerner at five, Jenna Duale at four, Kyle Johnston at three, Angela De Claro at two and Megan Riggs at bow.

The final regatta of the fall season takes place on Nov. 12 in Newport Beach, Calif.
