Two students arrested following alleged battery on police officer

A University Police officer was assaulted by two students on May4 while following up on two previous cases, a police officialsaid.

University Police Investigator John Hamricksaid an officer had located Dyamen Williams, 18, in Lassen Hall todiscuss two prior cases consisting of battery, brandishing a weaponand terrorist threats.

Hamrick said the officer escorted Williamsback to his dorm residence at Sierra Hall, where Williams and19-year-old Desirae Wright, who was not involved in the priorcases, became involved in an argument that escalated into physicalviolence.

At this point, Williams proceeded to grab theofficer around the neck while Wright began to kick the officer inthe upper left thigh and groin multiple times, Hamrick said.

Additional officers were dispatched to SierraHall for backup and both Williams and Wright were arrested.

Williams and Wright were arrested for felonybattery on a police officer, and resisting arrest, a misdemeanor.Both subjects knew each other prior to this event, although it isunknown as to what their relationship was, Hamrick said.

University Police are not releasing the nameof the officer involved, Hamrick said.
