ASI Board member resigns
December 5, 2001
Associated Students, Inc. Vice President of University Affairs Calvin Davis officially resigned today.
Davis resigned due to a lack of accessibility and personal problems, according to ASI President Artemio Pimentel.
“The office of University Affairs has been missing from our administration. He?s been dealing with personal issues, and we are very concerned,” Pimentel said. “My biggest concern is the lack of representation for the students.”
Davis did not return calls from the The State Hornet.
Pimentel and Davis discussed the issue yesterday and both agreed it would be best if Davis resigned from his position.
However, Davis has yet to submit a letter of resignation to Pimentel and the ASI Board.
“The important issue is that he gets back on track with his life again, but of course, business must go on in the ASI office,” Pimentel said.
The position will be filled soon and, according to Pimentel, there are several students already interested in the position.
This is not the first time Calvin Davis has left the ASI Board, nor is it the first time the office has been vacant. Last year, ASI asked Davis to resign his position as Director of Social Sciences and Interdisciplinary Studies.
“Davis wasn?t able to meet the requirements to fulfill the duties of the Board last year, so he had to leave,” Pimentel said.
Davis? seat remained empty as his nameplate faced the other way at today?s Board meeting. Every member of the Board was present.
ASI will be looking to fill the vacant office as early as February. Along with the Vice President of University Affairs position, ASI wants to fill the Executive Director slot, which is temporarily occupied by Associate Director Pat Worley.
According to Chief of Staff Kevin Greene, the Vice President of University Affairs is responsible for University policy committees, and acts as a liaison between student representatives and the association.
“I am looking for anybody who is willing and is able to commit to the association, and to commit to every student on campus,” Pimentel said.
Director of Business Ryan Murphy also announced his resignation at today?s meeting.
“I am resigning due to personal problems; it has nothing to do with eligibility,” Murphy said. Murphy declined to comment further.
