Producer and director Matías Mera and Juan Miranda held a “Conversatorio” in the Sacramento State Union to spread awareness about Indigenous history on Monday, Oct. 9.
They started the presentation with an exclusive look at Mera’s documentary about Indigenous peoples, highlighting their cultural art and experiences. The documentary discusses the need to preserve culture through subsequent generations, a central theme of the “Conversatorio.”

“It kind of reminded me, you know, about Indigenous people here in America,”political science major Hector Madrigal said. “There’s people like that all around the world. They’ve kind of been erased through history.”
They also showed footage from “El Camino De Las Letras,” a documentary showcasing Latin music and art. Mera spoke of the importance of remaining connected to cultural roots and each other.
“We live in a world that is hyper-connected and at the same time profoundly disconnected,” Mera said.
