On Thursday, September 18, Scotland votes for their independence after a 307-year tie to England, a freedom well-deserved.

Approximately 4.2 million people are registered to vote in the referendum. A unique aspect of the vote is that Scotland lowered the voting age from 18 to 16, which caused many to be skeptical.

According to NBC News there are nearly 110,000 voters aged 16 to 17 taking part in the referendum. Having people this young being interested in voting is a good thing. They are thinking about and taking part in the decision making process, which affect their country.

Even though Scotland has been united with England for a little over three centuries, they have their own culture. They should have the right to decide for themselves how their country should be governed.

The votes will be counted and the outcome revealed Friday, September 19 in what seems to be a quick turnaround. CBC News reported that if the separation is voted for, Scotland independence will begin March 24, 2016.
