Students prepare for future at open house

Students gathered around the Eureka hall lobby, waiting to speak to their mentors for guidance and advice on their future career goals today at the College of Education open house.

The goal of the open house was to “encourage and inform the undergraduate and graduate students of future job opportunities and the options that are available to them as future educators,” said Vanessa Sheared, dean of the college of education.

Through credential programs, internships and master programs in higher education, the College of Education hopes to improve the educational system in California.

Executive Vice President Angela Drope of the Student California Teachers Association not only hoped the open house not only informed Sac State students of the advantages of an educational career, but encouraged political involvement in order to create change.

“Students must rally together in order to stop fees from increasing at Sac State,” Drope said.

She also emphasized the importance of “the need to know of what’s going on in education.”

A former Sac State student, Drope felt the College of Education program prepared her for her administrative role in political education. She said she hopes to educate and create change for those that are “left behind in education with no support.”
