Sacramento State’s women’s basketball team received a boost and two losses this week.

The boost was the return of power forward Nichole Hardaway from academic ineligibility.

The Hornets’ (1-10) losses came at home to Saint Mary’s College, 64-56, and Southern Utah, 52-45. The seven and eight point losses were the Hornets’ closest defeats all season.

Hardaway, a junior, recorded a double-double on Thursday against Saint Mary’s (7-5), scoring 11 points and grabbing 13 rebounds. Danielle Iceman led the team in scoring with 13 points.

Triola Jackson led the Gaels with 29 points and 10 rebounds.

Against Southern Utah (7-5) on Saturday, the Hornets shot only 23.6 percent from the field, including 2-of-15 from 3-point range. Diane Peterson led the team with 14 points, while Hardaway grabbed a team-high 12 rebounds.

Shauntel Garrett led Southern Utah with 15 points and 13 rebounds.

The Hornets will next take on San Jose Christian, an NAIA team, on Thursday at Hornet Gym. Game time is set for 7:05 p.m. The Hornets knocked off Notre Dame de Namur to snap a 44-game losing streak in their only other game against an NAIA opponent this season.
