Nicholas Lozito
March 5, 2007

After racing out to a 4-3 start, the Sacramento State men's basketball team has now lost their last four games. The Hornets' (4-7) most recent losses came this weekend to the University of Idaho, 81-62, on Friday and Fresno State University, 91-53, on Sunday.

The two games marked the beginning of a six-game road trip for Sac State that will extend into Big Sky Conference play.

On Friday, Idaho went on a 20-6 run in the first half to take a 26-19 lead.

Idaho's Jack May scored 25 points to lead the Vandals. Brandon Guyton led the Hornets with a career-high 18 points, while forward Jimmy White poured in 11.

Fresno State jumped out quickly on Sunday, opening a 42-17 halftime lead. Jonathan Woods led the Bulldogs with 28 points. Derek Lambeth led the Hornets with nine points. Lambeth leads the Hornets in scoring with 10.7 points this season. White chipped in with 11 points and five steals.

Eleven games into the season the Hornets are 3-2 at home and 1-5 o the road.

The Hornets are expecting the return of Joseth Dawson, David Joiner and Leo Cravey in their next game at Lipscomb on Jan. 4. The three players have missed the first 11 games due to academic ineligibility.

Sports Thoughts…

Editor's note:Nick Lozito works as a managing editor at The State Hornet and oftentimes contributes to the sports section. The following is a brief selection of the thoughts that keep him up late, late at night.

If Ricky wasn't shot at the end of "Boyz N The Hood," I wonder whether or not he would have been an impact freshman at USC?...

- -----I'm not surprised that a 42-year-old Dennis Rodman snatched 14 rebounds in his ABA debut. Every player battling with Rodman underneath the basket must have been too busy thinking about their two degrees of separation from Carmen Electra....

- -----There's no doubt that Pete Rose is digging himself a bigger hole every time he agrees to a television interview. Not because he comes off as a complete jerk, but because America is constantly reminded of his ridiculous 1980's bowl cut....

- -----Excessive celebration penalties in football should be 15 yards for black players and 30 yards for white players....
