Five Hornet football players were suspended on Friday prior to the team’s game against Eastern Washington University.

According to a Sports Information Department press release, Camron Mbewa, Ramon Payne, Anthony Palomarez, Derard Barton and Gary Austin Jr. have been suspended indefinitely for violating the team’s code of conduct.

“Our comment is that we’re very disappointed in the situation,” Hornet Athletic Director Terry Wanless said. “The football team has to rally around the players who stepped up.”

All five players were sent home Friday night following the suspension.

All players, coaches and athletic department faculty questioned would not comment on the circumstances leading to the suspensions.

According to Sports Information Director Brian Berger, Hornet head coach John Volek will make his decision on the length of the suspensions after meeting with the five players individually.

Hornet cornerback Brandon Coleman was suspended for three games earlier in the season for breaking the code of conduct.
