Sheley declared new provost
January 27, 2007
Joe Sheley was declared the new provost and vice president of Academic Affairs of Sacramento State on Dec. 8 by President Alexander Gonzalez.
Sheley had been the interim Provost and vice president for the fall semester of 2006, following former provost Ric Brown’s retirement in July 2006.
“Joe is completely committed to Sacramento State,” President Gonzalez said. “He knows the institution intimately, having served in both academic and administrative posts. That experience and familiarity with the campus is invaluable, and it made Joe the standout candidate.”
Sheley received his bachelor’s degree in social science and master’s in sociology from Sac State. He holds a doctorate in sociology from the University of Massachusetts.
Sheley also served as Sac State’s director of Alumni Relations in 2004-05 and the university’s executive vice president in 2005-06. He was also the dean of the College of Social Sciences and Interdisciplinary Studies from 1996 to 2005.
