Staff member injured after being hit by train
March 26, 2004
Sacramento State staff member Ryan Bjork was hit by a light rail on March 15 while riding his bike home from work.
Bjork, who is the athletics assistant media relations director, suffered a broken collar bone and fractures to the skull as a result of the accident. The accident occurred at Folsom and Watt between 6-7 p.m.
Sacramento Regional Transit was unable to comment on the accident at press time.
Bill Macriss, the associate athletic director for administration, said that Bjork remembers very little about the accident.
“For a flash of an instant, he remembered seeing the light rail,” Macriss said. “Then he woke up in the hospital.”
Macriss said that upon arriving at the hospital, Bjork could not remember his own name. Bjork could, however, remember his parents’ phone number, which is how he was identified.
Bjork was kept in the trauma center of the UC Davis Medical Center until the evening of March 16, when he was moved to a normal room. He was moved to Kaiser Permanente a few days later.
Josh Ellis, the athletics media relations assistant, said Bjork was released from Kaiser Permanente on Saturday and is at home resting.
Macriss said that he expects Bjork to return to work next week.
