Works by Joseph Raffael and Frank Owen

The New York Times recently reviewed the artwork of Joseph Raffael, stating: “Mr. Raffael continues to produce gorgeous, technically ambitious, unabashedly romantic watercolors.” Now his work, along with the paintings of Frank Owen, can be viewed at the University Library Gallery from Sept. 6 through Nov. 8.Raffael?s art exhibit displays nature as watercolor images that are abstract and vibrant. Among the works that will be on display are “Illuminations Summer,” “Spirit Entry” and “Harvest Moon.”Raffael was a member of the CSUS art faculty from 1969 to 1974. His pieces have been shown in several museums, including the Museums of Modern Art in San Francisco and New York. More information about Raffael and his artwork can be found at www.josephraffael.com.Like Rafael, artist Frank Owen utilizes an abstract style and concentrates on the subject of nature. He used acrylic to create works like “Cairns: Students and Teachers,” “Between the Seasons” and others. During the 1960s, Owen attended CSUS before getting BA and MA degrees at UC Davis. Owen?s work has been shown nationwide in places like the Corcoran Gallery of Art and Yale University.The exhibit will be open Tuesdays through Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Drop by Rafael and Owen?s opening reception, which will be held Friday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the University Library Gallery.
