Fifty people were killed and another 53 were wounded after a gunman opened fire at the popular gay nightclub, Pulse, in Orlando, Florida early Sunday in the worst mass shooting in American history.

In an act of support for the victims, The Sacramento LGBT Community Center is organizing a rally to be held at 4 p.m. outside Faces Nightclub at 2000 K Street in Sacramento.

Mayor-elect Darrell Steinberg, Councilmember Steve Hansen and Sacramento LGBT Community Center Board President Carlos Marquez will be in attendance at the rally.

In a widely circulated Facebook post, The Sacramento LGBT Community Center stated: “Make no mistake, this was a direct attack on the LGBT community and an unfortunate reminder that, despite our gains, complacency is not an option, and we must continue to show solidarity in the face of HATE. We refuse to relinquish our safe spaces to homophobic and terrorist forces that would prefer to see us retreat in fear.”
