Sac State holds career fair for all majors

Hundreds of students dressed in professional attire, holding resumes in their hands, packed the University Ballroom on Wednesday to meet potential employers for an internship or job opportunity at the All Majors Career Fair hosted by the Career Center.

A total of 115 employers from a wide variety of fields were present at the fair, including The Wine Group, BART Police Department and Verizon.

Students attended the fair seeking jobs related to their majors.

“I want something medical-related,” said junior biochemistry major Jhezmel Justiniani. “I’m geared towards pre-med so anything along the health-field related.”

This is the second career fair electrical engineering graduate Samah Makhzani has attended. He said he was hoping to meet with SMUD because it was related to his major but expressed his disappointment that there were not as many employers related to his major at this career fair, compared to last year’s.

“As I go through the list, I don’t see that much [for an] electrical engineering major,” Makhzani said. “Last year, there were much more, but this year it’s mostly computer and business.”

Some students came prepared knowing who and what they were looking for, while other students simply wanted to explore the different options available to them.

Junior psychology major Jeneille Perry said she prepared for the career fair by thinking of questions she may want to ask the organizations.

Sophomore recreational therapy major Sy Vue stopped by the fair, not knowing what to expect.

“It was great experience. For those [employers] that weren’t my major, I still went there [and] they still helped me out,” Vue said. “They were willing to reach out, even though my major didn’t relate to the job title. They’re really helpful and I feel that they really appreciate me being there.”

He also added, “I came here with an open mind, to see what would catch my eye. There are some [companies] that definitely caught my attention, and I will contact them in the near future.”

It was busy but a good turnout, said Voun Sa, coordinator of the career fair.
