Students receive free produce on campus

The Central Downtown Food Basket was back on campus Monday to give free, fresh produce to students.

The Pop Up Pantry is a collaboration between the CDFB and Associated Students, Inc. to provide healthier food options for students in need.

The CDFB handed out bags of potatoes, strawberries and carrots to students.

“It’s for fresh produce only,” said Timothy Baumbach, executive director of the CDFB. “It’s introducing college students to fresh alternatives instead of having a processed alternative.”

Baumbach said every month there are about 300 students who come by for the free produce, and he expects the number to rise.

The next Pop Up Pantry will be held on Monday, March 28 at Serna Plaza.
