Sacramento State candidates for executive vice president of Associated Students Inc. and vice president of Finance and Budget participated in a forum to let students know why they should be voted into these two positions.

Those running for vice president of Finance and Budget are Ivan Tiet, Schuyler Rathbun and Logan Rivera; and for executive vice president there are Melissa Bardo, Anthony Maalouf and Brenda Martinez.

Each candidate gave an opening statement, answered two questions about themselves and the position, and gave closing statements.

The candidates of vice president of Finance and Budget each talked about the experience they have accumulated through different organizations they have worked with as well as their respective qualifications.

The candidates also identified on-campus issues and the solutions they would put into motion if elected.

“I will reach out to different clubs and organizations in a variety of colleges to diversify my council,” Rathbun said.

For the positional question for the vice president of Finance and Budget, the candidates stated what they would do if they were to be elected.

Rathbun said he would make sure that when running Dollars for Clubs and Organization (DOC) meetings, he would have an unbiased committee ensuring every dollar is spent in a meaningful way, whereas Rivera said he wants to help students acknowledge where their money is going and make sure things are done effectively and efficiently.

“I believe that’s what’s really important — that I bring a different outlook to the position than most other things,” Rivera said.

Rivera said some of the money does not always go directly to the clubs because there are guidelines that need to be followed when running the DOC committees and he would like to make sure those who ask for allocations know that.

The candidates running for executive vice president said they would like to fix the issues they see on campus and let the students know what resources they have and how this is a great opportunity to allow them to have that chance.

“What really got me motivated to run is no improvement when it comes to registration impaction,” Maalouf said. “However they’re breaking ground on a resident hall this summer.”
