Rowing medals in all seven events in Sacramento State Invitational

The Hornets’ women’s rowing team medaled in every event in the Sacramento State Invitational this afternoon at Lake Natoma in the team’s 2015 season opener. 

Sac State finished in first place in varsity eight, second varsity eight, varsity four and second varsity four. The women also took second in the novice four, third in the novice eight (seven minutes and 16.4 seconds) and second novice eight (7:53.1).

The competition comprised of Saint Mary’s College, Humboldt State, UC San Diego, Mills College and Orange Coast College with seven events taking place.

In their first regatta, the Hornets cleaned up in the varsity eight with a time of 6:47.7 in the 2,000-meter race as Saint Mary’s proceeded in second place (6:53.9) and Humboldt State closed out the top three with a time of 6:56.6.

Sac State posted a time of 6:57.9 to win the second varsity eight race, while second-place UC San Diego (7:11.5) trailed by more than 13 seconds as they were unable to outpace the Hornets’ boat. Saint Mary’s placed third with a time of 7:13.2, Humboldt State landed in fourth and Mills College came in last.

In varsity four and second varsity four the women finished with times of 7:44.9 and 7:56.3 respectively to take their final top honors.

With a commanding 14 second lead (8:01.1), UCSD edged out Sac State (8:15.5) in the novice four in a field of seven boats. The Hornets sent out a second boat to compete in the same event and finished in sixth (8:58.1).

The women will be in action next Saturday when the team competes in the San Diego Crew Classic on March 28.
