March 10, 2015
Sacramento State’s Fantasia Hilliard and Gretchen Harrigan earned All-Big Sky Conference women’s basketball honors today when the Big Sky announced the all-conference team and individual award winners for the 2014-15 season in Ogden, Utah.
Senior point guard Hilliard was awarded first-team All-Big Sky and sophomore forward Harrigan received honorable mention and top reserve.
Hilliard earned conference accolades for the third consecutive year playing with the Hornets. She won honorable mention the last two seasons and in 2012 she was voted the most outstanding freshman. The senior is the fourth player in Sac State women’s basketball history to be a three time All-Big Sky honoree.
In her collegiate career Hilliard still leads the squad and Big Sky with a record of 5.5 assists per game. She is also third in the league with 2.9 steals per game and she holds the highest average of points per game with 13.5. With her strong performances the point guard is in third for assists and steals in the Big Sky history and first in Sac State’s program. The athlete also is ranked fifth among the active NCAA Division I women’s basketball players for career assists and steals.
Kylie Kuhns was the last Hornet to win First Team All-Big Sky honors in 2013.
Harrigan has had much success during the 2014-15 season playing with Sac State. This is the sophomore’s first year playing as a Hornet after transferring from Santa Rosa Junior College. The forward was announced the Big Sky Top Reserve and shares the honor with Megan Hochstein of Idaho State and Peyton Farris of Montana State.
Sophomore Harrigan is the team leader in field goal percentage with 46.6 percent. She is in the second on the team with 11.3 points per game and with 4.3 rebounds per game. The forward this season has made her mark on the team and contributed double digit scores during 12 games, while scoring 20 points in four of those contests.
The women will continue to add on to their achievements when Sac State starts 2015 Big Sky Conference Tournament action on Wednesday, March 11 against the No 7. Seed Montana State. The Hornets and Bobcats will compete at the University of Montana at 10 a.m. PST in Missoula, Montana.
