Gymnastics team scores season high 195.050 at San Jose State

The Sacramento State gymnastics team competed in a four-team meet at San Jose State against San Jose State, Utah State and Seattle Pacific University on Sunday afternoon and placed third with a season-high score of 195.050.

For the second meet in a row Sac State scored at least a 48.000 on every event.

Sac State had two competitors in the all-around: sophomore Julia Konner and freshman Lauren Rice. Rice tied for third place and marked a career high with a score of 39.150 and Konner came in ninth with a score of 38.350.

The Hornets’ best event of the day was beam. Rice and Konner both tied for second with a score of 9.825. The team had a season-high final score of 48.875. Senior Kayla Wonderly and junior Alyssa Anderson each contributed a score of 9.775.

Sac State’s next best event was vault with a final score of 48.775. Konner tied for fourth overall and received a score of 9.825. Rice tied for eighth with a score of 9.800. Senior Tina Necas added a score of 9.750.

Bars were the next best event and Sac State earned a final score of 48.750. Junior Cassie Benning tied for second overall with a 9.825. Rice added a 9.800 and Wonderly added a 9.750.

The Hornets got a score of 48.650 on floor, led by Benning’s 9.850. Konner added 9.750 and Rice came up with a score of 9.725.

Sac State’s final regular season meet will be at 2 p.m. on March 15 at the Hornets Nest. This will be the team’s senior meet, celebrating the seniors’ last home meet as well as the final home competition for coach Kim Hughes, as he is retiring at the end of this season.
