Gymnastics ties for second in three-team meet at UC Davis

The Sacramento State gymnastics team competed in a three-team meet against UC Davis and Central Michigan University on Friday night and tied for second with an overall score of 194.150. They fell to UC Davis’ 194.725.

In the meet, Sac State received a score of at least 48.000 in every event.

The Hornets’ highest scoring event of the night was the vault with a score of 48.875. Freshman Caitlin Soliwoda had a career best with a score of 9.825.

The uneven bars marked Sac State’s next best event with the total score of 48.675. The Hornets were led by junior Cassie Benning with the team high of 9.800.

Floor received the final score of 48.600 for the Hornets. Benning led the team with a score of 9.800, followed by sophomore Julia Konner’s 9.775.

Beam marked Sac State’s lowest overall team score with a 48.000. Konner led the way with 9.675. Senior Kayla Wonderly was close behind with a score of 9.650.

Sac State only has three all-around gymnasts: senior Kalliah McCartney, who did not compete due to an ankle injury, Konner and freshman Lauren Rice.

Rice, who was injured last season, competed Friday in the all-around and received a final score of 38.625. Her best event of the night was vault with a mark of 9.800.

Konner earned a total score of 38.850, placing third out of five competitors, and her highest score of the night was the vault at 9.800.

Next up for gymnastics, the Hornets travel to San Jose State for a four-team meet, competing against San Jose State, Utah State and Seattle Pacific University at 2 p.m. on March 8.
