Rowing takes down UC Davis in Causeway action

The Sacramento State women’s rowing team swept all four races against UC Davis Saturday morning at the Port of Sacramento.
The events included were the varsity eight, second varsity eight, novice eight and varsity four .
In the varsity eight race, Sac State posted a time of 6:47.5 and was nearly 20 seconds faster than Davis. The victory earned the Hornets the Jean Runyon Cup, a trophy both schools have competed for every year since 1997.
In the second varsity eight, Sac State won by an impressive 28 seconds, posting a time of seven minutes flat.
The Hornets’ novice eight won its race with a time of 7:34. The novice eight finished nearly a whole minute faster than the Aggies. The varsity four also came out victorious as it won its race by a comfortable 13 seconds.
Sac State will not compete again for another two weeks as it travels to Oak Ridge, Tenn. for the Conference USA Championships. This will mark the first time in program history that the Hornets will compete in a NCAA-recognized conference championship. A victory would earn Sac State an automatic bid to the NCAA Championship in Indianapolis.
