Sacramento State women’s tennis three-game win streak came to an end Tuesday against the University of Texas at Arlington, 4-2 at the Rio Del Oro Racquet Club.

The Hornets defeated the Mavericks in doubles to take the first point of the match, but the women failed to finish them off in singles play.

Katharina Knoebl was the lone Hornet to pick up a victory in singles at the No. 6 position. The senior dominated the Mavericks Verena Scott at 6-0, 6-2.

The first singles match on the day was No. 1 Jennifer Nguyen, where the sophomore was up 4-1 in her first set then abruptly had to retire.

Sophomore Olivia Boija was up 5-3 in her final set over Mavericks Ekaterina Tugarinova, but the last singles match was left unfinished due to UT Arlington sweeping the previous three singles matches.

The Mavericks Angeles de los Rios secured the victory at singles No. 3 against Alina Soltanici at 6-4, 6-2.

The Hornets captain Sophie Lohscheidt returned to the lineup after sitting out of competition on Sunday. The senior put up a fight, but was ultimately defeated by UT Arlington’s Jessica Birowski at 6-2, 6-3.

Sac State is now 4-8 overall and will be looking to rebound Thursday as the women take the court against the University of Maryland, Baltimore County at Rio Del Oro Racquet Club.
