Starbucks project delayed again

While Sacramento State University Enterprises Inc. was planning to open a Starbucks location in the old Copy Graphics building near the Riverfront Center at the start of the semester, the completion of the project will be delayed until late spring.

“Unfortunately, the Starbucks licensed store, which was scheduled to open before the spring semester, is delayed due to an unforeseen issue affecting the general contractor,” said UEI Marketing Director Angela Rader in a December statement.

Rader said Atto Construction has been hired to complete construction and is anticipated to open in late spring.

This is the second time the project is being delayed. While UEI first anticipated completion of the Starbucks store last fall, UEI Executive Director Jim Reinhart said the project was taking longer than expected because of the outdated location.

Alexa Timmermans, a junior nursing major, said she only drinks Starbucks and was disappointed to hear the project was delayed again.

“I was super excited to hear a Starbucks was being built,” Timmermans. “I was really bummed out when (it) was delayed. I have to go all the way on 65th Street to buy my coffee. I wished they would have had it when they said it would.”

The Starbucks “We Proudly Brew” program in the American River Courtyard suites opened in the fall and is already serving the popular brand of coffee.
